Why is this class important?
How we hear the story of birth matters. Many of us have unlearning to do as we move towards the re-centering of our relationship to breath, nonverbal communication, & initiation. Birth, like all deeply uncomfortable moments, can be a tool for transformation and learning. Birth teaches us about our relationship to ourselves, partners, family, sexual expression, authority, health/illness, death and rebirth, and thus lays the way for parenting, protecting, & community building. Birth is worth looking at from micro to macro perspectives, from hormones to who we become in the face of great challenges.
Plus, we laugh a lot, and that is important for birth, too.
If you are a pregnant person who is looking to dive deep, this is the class for you. If you and your partner are looking for a class that is sophisticated, engaging, and relevant to our lives in this wild world, this is the class for you.
When should I take a Holistic Childbirth Prep Class?
Class is best taken anywhere between 17 weeks and 38 weeks, but... The techniques you and your partner learn for breath work, the hormonal blueprint of labor, and guided relaxation will become stronger tools for birth the more you practice them. Sharing a common language for birth with your partner will enhance your pregnancy experience, validate your intuition, and inform your birthing choices. The earlier you have this under your belt, the better!
Classes are kept extra small for pandemic safety and individual attention from the instructor, and tend to sell out, so early signup is helpful.
What is the difference between the three hour class and the comprehensive class?
In the three hour class, we focus on breath, body and relaxation for both partners, which we also do in the comprehensive class. In the three hour class, we do not have time to review the stages of labor, interventions and how to discern between necessary and unnecessary interventions, optimal fetal positioning, and advocacy, but we do in the comprehensive class! If you are a first time parent- especially one without a midwife or doula- it is highly recommended that you and your partner take the all day class.
