West County Herb Company, Occidental, CA
Occidental, CA is a small town that sits about an hour and twenty minutes North of San Francisco on Coastal Miwok land, nestled into the redwoods on the Bohemian Highway.
We are about twenty minutes from the ocean, Armstrong Woods or Hallberg Butterfly Gardens. Plant and animal life is lush since we are on the edge of the Dutch Bill Creek and Salmon Creek watersheds. At dusk you may hear owls and foxes, we've been visited by bears, and we love our ferns, mosses and trilliums.
Classes take place in the cozy education space of West County Herb Company, the perfect place to unwind and focus on the birth of your family. The herbal apothecary specializes in locally grown, always organic bulk herbs and handcrafted remedies and self care products along with a carefully curated collection of artisan wares. When people walk in they can't help but comment on the smell of dried flowers and herbal remedies, it smells so good! When childbirth classes aren't taking place, you'll find the community space filled with wood carving, herbal medicine making, mushrooms foragers, and indie- designer trunk shows. It's a space well loved and inhabited.

If you're traveling from the Bay Area or east side of Sonoma County, you may enjoy making a weekend of your workshop.
Right across the street from class is the newly renovated 1970s motor lodge Occidental Lodge. Having breakfast or lunch at the old train station dubbed Howard's Station is a must (gluten free waffles!), and it's just a few doors down. If you have time for a walk along the coast you can't go wrong with the Kortum Trail. In the evening, we highly recommend dinner at The Casino in Bodega (don't worry, it's not actually a Casino, just the best food around). Not to mention Nimble & Finns for ice cream and pie along the river, and Wild Flour Bakery for warm scones and coffee in Freestone, and you may as well indulge in a deeply nourishing treatment at Osmosis Day Spa. Making a human can be really hard, so take your time, go easy, and enjoy the journey.
